The Great Cenozoic Event
It seems a lifetime ago that Renny was embroiled in her college studies. Those were cut short, however, when over a single week, flora and fauna globally mutated into creatures once thought to exist only in legends and fables. Of these creatures, the dragons proved most destructive, quickly decimating civilized areas the world over. Later estimates placed the death toll at well over half the world's population.
As the dust settled from the initial assault, survivors found themselves witnesses to a world far removed from what they knew only days before. Not only had mythical beasts spawned, but ancient denizens of Earth's evolution had come forth as well- dinosaurs and mastodons walked together across a rapidly shifting sphere. Finally, some humans found that they had been endowed with the legendary abilities of humanity's great legendary heroes. Because of their destructive potential, an already rattled public turned on them and many were killed or run into the wilderness.
As the years pass and the Earth continues to change, whisperings of beings far more powerful than even the dragons echo through the settlements to the few remaining cities. Both humanity and the earth ready themselves for the next catastrophic push.
